Mass+Effort is a work that explores my personal history of growing up in a textile mill town in South Carolina. Moved by the drastic exodus of textile mills throughout the area, I began documenting and collecting salvedged bricks from various abandonded and demolished mills. Interpreting this through woven cloth using mill-end yarn produced in the region as well as handspun yarn made in collaboration with spinners around the country, I worked with members of the community to weave fabric that was then covered in plaster and layered in between the found bricks.
