Mass+Effort is a work that explores my personal history of growing up in a textile mill town in South Carolina. Moved by the drastic exodus of textile mills throughout the area, I began documenting and collecting salvedged bricks from various abandonded and demolished mills. Interpreting this through woven cloth using mill-end yarn produced in the region as well as handspun yarn made in collaboration with spinners around the country, I worked with members of the community to weave fabric that was then covered in plaster and layered in between the found bricks. Other work accompanying the installation include drawings, prints, and other woven pieces. To see details, visit the Woven section of this site.
