WOVEN

Weaving is an expansive process that allows me to combine materials that are often embedded with historical and contemporary associations. The physicality of manipulating threads into cloth is magical. With the first pass of the shuttle across the warp, strings become a fully dimensional pliable material that can be cut, bound, dipped, wrapped, sewn, and stretched. Woven structures can also contain coded information such as the schematic gene sequencing in Text-ile or the binary elements in a QR code in Visual Stratasphere.
